About Claire Fenton

Claire FentonClaire Fenton has been engaged in making fiber art since she was old enough to thread a needle, and play with fabrics. She began quilting in the 70's and branched out to creating original quilt art in the early 90's.

As an artist who's lived in south Louisiana all of her life, she has been greatly influenced by both the lush semi-tropical landscape, the rich, cultural heritage of the area, and more recently, the reality of natural and man-made events that threaten its very survival. Her richly expressive work is created from fabrics that have been hand painted and dyed - frequently with rust - and is typically heavily stitched. She has won numerous regional and national awards in both art and quilting venues and has work in collections in the United States, Canada, the UK, and Australia.
Claire recently earned her art degree at Nicholls State University. She lives in Houma, Louisiana .

"... the work is nothing else than the long journeying through the labyrinth of art to find again the two or three simple and great images upon which the heart first opened." Albert Camus
